What to do w/ the men responsible for 16-0?

I think it’s Jim Leyland.

Yanks call Brian Bruney up, while Chris Britton remains in the minors.

Moose blows, Ian Kennedy hasn’t reached his innings cap, there’s still time for change.
Phil Hughes

Monday was the first time Hughes pitched with his normal stuff since coming back from his injury. Monday, he was sitting at 95 MPH with his fastball all night. That is his normal velocity.
The results weren’t there for Hughes tonight because of a few things: he was trying to be too perfect early, he didn’t have any command of his curveball until the 6th (his only 1-2-3 inning) and he was still getting used to pitching with his normal stuff.
I look for Hughes to have his best start of the year so far in his next start against Detroit on the 26th.

Yanks now only trail the Sox by 4 games in the division race. Without Gagne, they might have an 8 game lead now. Too bad.

Joba Chamberlain

Edwar Ramirez
2 IP 0 HA 0 ER 0 BB 3 K
The Yanks 9-3 win over the Tigers (to take 3 of 4) Sunday was fueled by a dominant bullpen presence in Joba and Edwar, who combined for three perfect innings of work.
Wilson Betemit: 2-for-5, 2B, 4 RBI
Jason Giambi: .273/.377/.494/.877 DNP
Giambi and Betemit should take the everyday reps at 1B and DH for the rest of the year. If you want to put Betemit elsewhere to give Cano, Jeter or A-Rod a dayoff, okay, but put Giambi at 1B and Damon at DH (or Damon in LF and Matsui DH) and never play Andy Phillips again.

Mariano Rivera nailed down the Yanks 5-2 win over the Tigers Saturday earning his 20th save. Despite all of the unwaranted fallout from Mo blowing one game against the Orioles Wednesday, Mariano will be the Yankees closer for the rest of the year and he’s fine.
