Predictions

By Nick Shlain

I just had a six hour fantasy auction and a four our draft, I’m too beat to write an intro.

Here are my picks:

By division, *star* next to Wild Card.

AL East
New York Yankees
Boston Red Sox*
Toronto Blue Jays
Tampa Bay Rays
Baltimore Orioles

AL Central
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
Kansas City Royals
Chicago White Sox
Minnesota Twins

AL West
Los Angeles Angels
Oakland Athletics
Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers

Best Hitter: Alex Rodriguez NYY 3B, he has no equal.

Best Pitcher: Felix Hernandez SEA, Justin Verlander DET as a close 2nd.

Best Rookie: Joba Chamberlain NYY

Best Lineup: Yankees

Best Rotation: Indians, top heavy and deep.

Best Bullpen: Indians, deeeep.

Best Team: Yankees, The reluctance for pundits to pick the Yankees as the favorite is attributed to their reliance on young pitchers. The Yankees are expecting three pitchers of age 23 and under to log 150 or more innings for them in 2008. But, is that really so much to ask when they’ll be carried by what is likely the best offense in baseball and two top of the rotation starters likely to log 400-430 innings? If the young guns are just league average the Yankees will feel the upgrade from the Igawa, Wright, Clippard and Karstens starts last year and be the best team in the American League. If the kids are actually good, then look out.

Worst team: Baltimore Orioles, lock for 100 losses.

Biggest Suprise: Tampa Bay Rays, PECOTA has them for 88 wins, if they are .500 it’ll shock the world.

Dissapointments: Chicago and Seattle, your win-now trades will not pan out for higher than 3rd place.

As I’ve already stated, the Tigers didn’t do enough to pass the Indians. Pitching matters.

NL East
New York Mets
Atlanta Braves*
Philadelphia Phillies
Washington Nationals
Florida Marlins

NL Central
Chicago Cubs
Milwaukee Brewers
Cincinnati Reds
St. Louis Cardinals
Houston Astros
Pittsburgh Pirates

NL West
Arizona Diamondbacks
Colorado Rockies
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Giants

Best Player: David Wright NYM 3B, your should-be 2007 NL MVP.

Best Pitcher: Brandon Webb ARI, has his picture on the header for a reason.

Best Rookie: Kosuke Fukudome CHC

Best Lineup: Rockies

Best Rotation: Mets

Best Bullpen: Padres

Best Defense: Rockies

Best Team: Mets

Worst Team: Giants, also a lock for 100 losses. Just look at who they are starting at SS.

Biggest Suprise: Braves

Biggest Dissapointment: Reds, Dusty Baker winning 78 games with 84-win talent.

Also: Dodgers, Joe Torre is off on the right foot with Andre Either in LF, how long will that last?

World Series: Playoffs are a crapshoot, but gun to my head I’ll say Subway Series 2.0 Yankees over Mets.

I’m totally pumped for Opening Day, I’m taking off school to watch the Yankees on ESPN at 1pm, here’s to another great season.
