However, as all of the pitching experts and baseball people have stated on all of these blogs, he is a bust. Comment on Wild rumor by Nick Shlain http://trueyankee.org/2008/10/09/wild-rumor/#comment-3875 Nick Shlain Thu, 09 Oct 2008 18:30:37 +0000 http://trueyankeeblog.wordpress.com/?p=1214#comment-3875 Brian, I emailed Minaya a picture of Ian Kennedy and a few hours later heard that he is requesting Alfredo Aceves instead. Jon, saying Beltran is in "the decline phase of his career" is not accurate. His OPS+ the last three years is 131, 126, 150. He's played 140+ games 8 years in a row. He'll be 32 next year and his contract runs out after 2011, it's not like the ARod deal. The Yankees need to address durability and defense this off-season. Beltran helps both of those very well. If the Yankees do this trade and then sign 2B Mark Ellis and 1B Mark Teixeira, they will have a very large defensive improvment (like the Rays did this year). It'll also make groundball pitcher CM Wang better and give the Yankees more reason to sign FA Derek Lowe. The part about how much money the Yankees pick up from Cano's deal is the what scares me. There's no way the Yanks are going to give up all of those players, and pay Cano's salary for a player that's 31 years old and is possibly in the decline phase of his career. Beltran's no geezer, but he's not a baby anymore either....no doubt a very solid player but no where near worth all the above pieces. No way in hell this trade happens with the pieces/details listed above. This really doesn’t make sense.

Beltran isn't the hitter he was pre testing and a 2B who fields and can hit like Cano and is several years younger than Beltran is not gonna need other pieces if the Yanks were to want to older player. And going after older players is not the plan. This has got to be a joke.
